Background of Robb Connelly

I was born and raised in Edmonton. I remember like it was yesterday when the National Energy Program was announced. I was a Apprentice Electrician working in Nisku and my boss said we are in trouble, I just thought he was being overly pessimistic but wow was he right. There were some bad years ahead 18% mortgage rates. Dollar deals where people were selling their homes for a dollar to anyone that would take it over. We didn’t have much but thanks to mom we didn’t lose our very modest home.

In 1986 after completing my Electrical apprenticeship, I decided to go back to school and take Instrumentation Engineering Technology at NAIT and was offered a position with Syncrude upon graduating. I worked 29 years in industry the last 13 of that with Edmonton Power/Epcor at Clover Bar generating station and Genesee station. I decided to get way out of my comfort zone and share my expertise with young adults and some of the young at heart that are planning a new career.  I returned to NAIT however this time in front of the class in the Instrumentation program and the last 12 years just flew by.

I have resided in the County of Strathcona for 30 years. Like many parents I encouraged my daughters into sports and activities like Ringette, lacrosse, school sports, pony club, 4H, dance, brownies, gymnastics and there is always a need for help, no fancy titles, no salary, just get it done. I coached, did the highway cleanups, jump setup guy, burger guy, bingo guy, band-aid guy, etc. I was on the executive of the Sherwood Park Ringette Association for six years in various positions from equipment guy to A/B Director. I had the pleasure of working with some of the most giving people I know, that were devoted to developing the sport for the enjoyment of young girls and women. My daughters are all adults and still play, thanks to many people.

I look forward to applying focused hard work and life experience with the skills developed in education, industry and the community to ensure the Alberta Party is successful in the next election.
